Questions like these are routine at FHS. Since 1966, our mission has been to preserve and promote Falmouth’s history through research.
Our “History Detective” investigations yield two benefits. First, a family gains a deeper understanding of their past and present. In addition, the information we uncover adds another thread to the rich tapestry that is Falmouth’s history and gives us a stronger foundation for future research.
Research requests are becoming more detailed and often lead to a continuing dialog—which is a good thing. History is not static. It is constantly reshaped by new evidence and different perspectives. The unique resources of the Falmouth Historical Society are at the core of this dynamic process which helps us trace the path from Ancient Falmouth to today.
This fall, Falmouth’s Scout Troop 93 prepped and repainted the outside ramp and Research Room in the museum. Clearing the room has given us a blank slate to reimagine the museum itself and better tell Falmouth’s story. In 2026, we will continue the reorganization of our collection making information easier to find and replies to inquiries faster. Our volunteers do everything from research and tours to archives and maintenance and we must supply the resources to support them.
Despite our best efforts, inflation and unpredictable costs continue to eat away at our modest budget. Your generosity last year allowed us to finish the fiscal year in the black. Thanks to all who contributed.
Your support is critical to the success of the Society’s mission to preserve the documents, artifacts and stories of our community that have been lost to time.
