Since 1966, our job has been:

  • To acquire and preserve archives and artifacts pertaining to the history of Falmouth, Maine.
  • To make those historical materials accessible to members of the Society and the community.
  • To provide programs, exhibits and other educational opportunities to members of the Society and the community.
  • To assist members of the Society and the community with historical and genealogical research.
  • To cooperate with other organizations having similar purposes and interests.

Our focus includes present day Falmouth as well as Ancient Falmouth which, prior to 1765, encompassed today's towns of Falmouth and Cape Elizabeth as well as the cities of Portland, South Portland and Westbrook.

For more information about what your town's historical society is doing, records of our activities are posted online.

Our general and special meetings of the membership offer a good overview of the Society's activities.

Agendas, minutes, reports, and presentation slides are posted so that our members and the community can keep abreast of our work.  For this year's board meetings, see: FHS 2024 Board and Annual Meetings.  For foundational documents as well as board meetings for prior years, see: Society Records.
